The St Andrew’s Surfing Team returned from the Australian Schools Surfing Championships on the Gold Coast with an outstanding result, finishing as the Overall Runner-Up School in Australia .

The event, hosted by Surfing Australia, brought together more than 400 of the country’s most talented young surfers , representing leading schools from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. Against this formidable field, our students displayed not only remarkable skill in the surf but also composure, resilience and a team spirit that set them apart throughout the competition.

All three of our St Andrew’s teams progressed through multiple heats and into the Finals of their respective divisions, an achievement in itself on such a fiercely contested national stage.

Year 7/8/9 Boys : Eddie, Sonny and Lachie surfed with maturity and sharp technical ability, securing 2nd place overall in their division.

Year 7/8/9 Girls : Evie W, Evie B, Amelia and Evie J delivered a composed and consistent performance, also claiming 2nd place overall in their Final.

Year 10/11/12 Boys : Noah, Henry and Mitch navigated a competitive field with confidence and skill, finishing a commendable 5th overall .

To have all three teams reach the Finals and come away with such strong results, Head of Sport Mr Steve Robson said is a credit to the dedication and preparation of each student involved and to the team-first culture that underpins our Surfing program.

“While podium finishes are always worth celebrating, what made this event particularly special was the way our students represented St Andrew’s with humility, integrity, and passion ,” he said.

“Whether it was in the water or supporting each other from the shore, the camaraderie and respect shown by our team was a true reflection of the Diamond Strong values and culture we uphold as a College.”

This achievement would not have been possible without the guidance and support of a dedicated team behind the scenes, including Teacher in Charge of Surfing Mr Alex Austin , whose leadership continues to strengthen the culture and performance of our Surfing program, supported by our incredible surf coaches, Eggy and Kirra , whose commitment develops our students’ skills and confidence.
