02 May 2024

partnership

What a spectacular day of running. Thank you for your wonderful support at the Independent District Carnival. It certainly was a fantastic day of running for 108 terrific students who all contributed to the very special St Andrew’s success.

Congratulations to our super Primary (9-12 years) Cross Country team, who, with so many outstanding individual performance results, won the Overall Champion trophy ahead of Matthew Flinders in 2nd and Sunshine Coast Grammar in 3rd. In the Secondary (13-19 years) event in the morning, there were again lots of determined runs to finish runners up at the carnival behind Matthew Flinders. The combined Points Total across all events and ages, places St Andrew’s in 1st place. There were an impressive 37 Top 10 finishes throughout the day. There were also an impressive 14 Top 3 finishes . Fantastic to see our runners place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 13 of the 18 age team division championships (see below).

We have now competed at 98 ‘Big 3’ carnivals (Cross Country , Swimming and Athletics) alongside the 11 Sunshine Coast Independent Schools since 2005. The overall win for our Primary Cross Country team on Tuesday was our 45th Overall Champion trophy , which is an incredible achievement for the College and credit to our students and families.

Congratulations to Year 12 students Heidi and Tom – true examples of being Diamondstrong! Heidi and Tom have both been simply incredible for the College and have represented the College every year that they have been eligible and have achieved some incredible results. It is their effort, passion and determination that has shone through, but most of all they are always proud to pull on the College singlet and run as hard as they can for themselves, their family, their teammates and the College! Thank you Heidi and Tom for all you have given to the College and our sincere best wishes for all that you continue to achieve.

A special mention also to our Cross Country Captains – Xavier and Rose - for their passion and support of St Andrew's Cross Country.  Special thank you also this week for the help and support of staff members – Sally Powell, Wendy Porter, Cam Piper, Richard Beckett and  Alex Austin

Cross Country running teaches us a lot about what we can achieve, in particular, how hard we can push ourselves and what we are prepared to do for others. You certainly learn a lot about yourself! Importantly it is such a great Sport to appreciate what you are truly capable of. Our students were extremely impressive and I sincerely hope every runner feels appropriately proud about what they contributed to the College. The running culture at St Andrew’s is very special and this year’s achievement added to a very impressive honour roll since the College opened in 2003.

Training continues for our students every Tuesday for Year 3, 4,5,6 students as we prepare for Athletics. Training for 12 -18 years students continues with Sea Squad with Ms Child every Tuesday and Thursday in readiness for the Regional Championships and Athletics this term.
