Brittany Cashman

Class of 2014

After graduating, Brittany took a GAP year to San Francisco where she worked as a Camp Counsellor, a challenging job which allowed her to step outside her comfort zone.

This year gave her time to decide on her next steps, deciding to study a Business Degree majoring in Management at QUT. Furthering her University experience, Brittany spent a Semester abroad in the French Alps immersing herself in the French way of life.

Brittany now works on the Gold Coast for a SaaS called CartonCloud, a tech system which helps run small and medium businesses, and sees her at the forefront of technological advancements and trends. As the company expands internationally, Brittany hopes to be able to work overseas and travel again soon!

What did you do directly after school? Studies, travel, living etc

I took a Gap Year and went to America to live and work in San Francisco. I worked at Steve and Kate’s Camp as a Camp Counsellor. It was a challenging job, however, I loved the experience and really enjoyed living in San Francisco.

Did you study at University and graduation news etc?

I studied at Queensland University of Technology and completed my Bachelor of Business with a major in Management and minor in International Business. I spent a Semester abroad in the French Alps studying Marketing. It was the highlight of my University experience. I couldn’t speak much French before going over but I quickly immersed myself in the French way of life and enjoyed the perks of a European university. We would spend most of our weekends skiing and I was lucky enough to go back packing around Europe for 4 months following the end of the Semester.

What are you currently doing workwise?

I work for a SaaS (software as a service) company, called CartonCloud. CartonCloud is a Transport and Warehouse Management system that runs warehouses and transport businesses around Australia and New Zealand. I love working for a tech company where you’re at the forefront of technological advancements and trends. I appreciate the fact that the work we do each day is helping to run small to medium businesses around Australia and ultimately help run our economy. CartonCloud is based in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, so I enjoy a great work life balance.

What are your long-term goals?

CartonCloud is currently in an internationalisation expansion stage so I would love to work overseas and be able to travel again soon.

What were your interests during school… sport, music etc and are you still involved?

I loved anything to do with sport. Netball, Touch and Athletics were some of my favourites. But I was involved in Basketball, Volleyball, Cross Country and anything else I could manage. Team sports was definitely a highlight of my school life.

What are your highlights from school, teachers, programs etc?

Modern History with Mr Bart, Maths with Mr Rudkin and Drama with Ms Mackie. I loved all of the Athletics and Cross-Country Carnivals and travelling for different sporting events. The different community events and fundraisers St Andrew’s would involve themselves with. I was always grateful for the supportive community at St Andrew’s and enjoyed feeling involved within the community.

What challenges you faced post-school, and even post-uni (if applicable)?

I think the biggest challenge after finishing school is knowing what to do next, at the time it can be quite daunting, but now looking back I realise this is quite an exciting time. I think to overcome this challenge you need to try different things and be outside of your comfort zone to know what direction you want to take.

Do you stay in touch with friends from school?

Yes. I used to live with a friend from school in Sydney and still regularly see and speak to some of my friends from school.

Have you visited the College in recent years and if so what are your thoughts on the new facilities (eg Learning Hub, Aquatic Centre)?

I haven’t been to the school recently, but I have heard great things about the new Aquatic Centre and the Learning Hub.
