2012 is a very exciting year in the life of the College as we celebrate our tenth year of operation. We look forward to sharing this milestone with our wonderful community.
School Hours 2012 (whole College): 8:30am – 3:00pm
Please note that Secondary will commence each day with House Groups at 8:30am and finish at 3:00pm (not 3:05pm).
A Reminder: Shoe and Hair Requirements
We are very proud of our uniform and we expect all students to arrive on the first day back in the correct uniform. Shoes are to be black, leather lace up school shoes with a minimum of 1cm rise in the heel but not high heels. They can not be skate or surf or ballet type or black leather runners.
Boys hair must be neat and off the collar and not able to hang over the eyes. Girls hair must be neat and if long, tied back with navy, white or red ribbons or scrunchies. Please also remember the College policy on jewellery and make-up. We thank you for your assistance in upholding our wonderful image.
Outstanding Academic success
The College is amazingly proud of all our Year 12 students who have achieved success at so many different levels. In terms of statistics:- Five students achieved an OP 1, which is an outstanding result. Congratulations to, Tom Shannon, Ellen Foster, Aprile Wenke, Sterling Tebbett and Georgia Harman. This equates to 10.6% of our cohort, one of the highest percentages in the state.
- 21% received an OP of 1 or 2, far above the state average of just under 6%.
- 34% received an OP of 1 - 5.
- Our most remarkable statistic is that our OP 1 – 15 result, often used by the media to rank schools in terms of their Year 12 results, is 100%. In our collective experiences of education in Queensland, 100% is extremely rare and usually only achieved in small schools with enrolments less than 10 in Year 12.
As these results come out, we also begin to hear of other offers made to our students. Our boys College captain (Sam Johnson) was the recipient of an $83,000 scholarship to undertake Engineering through the University of NSW Co-op program. Emily Wells was selected out of thousands of applicants to attend NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, in 2012. Shaun Cornish has been invited to start as an apprentice chef at the Hyatt Coolum which is a very rare occurrence but an opportunity that Shaun will undertake with real passion and commitment. These results are testament to the hard work of our Year 12 students, but also the support of their parents in encouraging them throughout their education. It is certainly a wonderful result and the combined efforts of so many people is what enables students to achieve.
Remy creates History
Congratulations to St. Andrew's student Remy Fairweather who has created Australian swimming history when she broke one of the longest standing age-group AUSTRALIAN records being held by Hayley Lewis for 22 years !!! The record is now Remy's. The event was 14 years Girls 400m Freestyle in a time of 4:10.55, this also got her a bronze medal in the OPEN State 400m FINAL. She is now the fastest 13 yr old and 14 year old ever in Australian swimming history in this event. On behalf of everyone at St. Andrew's - congratulations Remy - We are very proud of you. Here is an audio file of her coach being interviewed on ABC radio about Remy
Water Polo - Queensland teams announcedCongratulations to six St. Andrew's students who have been selected in the Queensland U14 Water Polo squads announced today. They are Nic Porter, Dylan Coolican, Juliano Cerasani, Cameron Boldy, Fraser Hopkins and Jacqui Sjogren. a wonderful achievement and thoroughly well deserved after performing brilliantly at the Queensland Water Polo Championships.
