There are various ways students can participate in the Equestrian Program in 2017. Students are required to have their own horse to compete for St Andrew's, however there are a range of activities available to all students with or without a horse.

Sport Option (Primary - Year 3 and 4)

Equestrian is offered as a sport option through Equathon in Verrierdale in Terms 2 and 3. The age groups really depend on the demand but usually Primary students have this opportunity. Students have the option of bringing their own horse to the sessions or using one of the horses that Equathon provides. The sport option at Equathon is user pay and will cost aprox $40 per a week if you require a horse or aprox $35 per a week if you are bringing your own horse.  Students will be grouped according to ability and will be participating in structured lessons and trail rides.

Students will need to bring the following gear to the Sport Sessions;

·       Long legged lyrca gym pants or ideally jodphurs

·       A current Australian approved horse riding safety helmet (Equathon can supply helmets but it is best to purchase your own)

·       Short elastic-sided riding boots (RM Williams style) or at least comfortable closed-in shoes

·       Water, hat, sunscreen and raincoat

Equathon is owned and operated by three-time Olympian, Alex Watson. More information about the Equathon facilities and instructors can be found on their website.

Squad Training

This year Equathon has aprox 30 riders training throughout the week. Equathon is owned and operated by three time Olympian, Alex Watson. More information about the Equathon facilities and instructors can be found at http://www.equathon.com/

To organise outside hours lessons register to secure your spot with Rebecca via email rebecca@equathon.com or phone 0448889316. Outside school times the group lesson is aprox $50 ($40 with your own horse) or aprox $80 for a private lesson ($70 with your own horse).

There is a growing waiting list of riders who would like regular training times with Equathon, so we ask that if you are unable to make your lesson then you let Equathon know in advance so that they can offer that lesson to others.

It is a great opportunity to receive training and engage in a community service that looks great on the resume and is incredibly rewarding.
