Training and Lessons (Competitive and Non- Competitive)

Equathon Equestrian Centre is affiliated with the College’s Equestrian program. They provide squad training and individual lessons to students and host the St Andrews Showjumping Event each year.

Students have the option of bringing their own horse to the sessions or using one of the horses that Equathon provides.  All lessons are 1 hour with the exception of Friday afternoon Jump Club which is approx. 2 hours. Lessons are either Private or Group (absolute max of 4 students but usually 2 who are grouped according to ability).

Lessons are after school (from 3:30pm) or before school (from 6:30am) on all 5 week days by prior booking on a minimum of one lesson a week for the duration of the term.

To organise outside hours lessons register to secure your spot with Rebecca and Alex via email rebecca@equathon.com  alex@equathon.com or phone 0448889316. Outside school times the group lesson is aprox $50 ($40 with your own horse) or aprox $80 for a private lesson ($70 with your own horse).

Students will need to bring the following gear as a minimum;

  • St Andrews sports polo
  • Long legged lyrca gym pants or ideally jodphurs
  • A current Australian approved horse riding safety helmet (Equathon can supply helmets but it is best to purchase your own)
  • Short elastic-sided riding books (RM Williams style) or at least comfortable closed-in shoes.
  • Water, Hat, Sunscreen and Raincoat

Equathon is owned and operated by three time Olympian, Alex Watson. More information about the Equathon facilities and instructors can be found at http://www.equathon.com/

Voluntary Opportunities

There are opportunities to volunteer on a long term basis with the Sunshine Coast Riding for the disabled. You must be 16yrs old and yearly membership is $30 (for insurance). It is a great opportunity to receive training and engage in a community service that looks great on the resume, help to get your Duke of Edinburgh Award and is incredibly rewarding.
