Great News!!! We can now offer our surfers lifts to school following morning squads.  There are 11 places up for grabs each morning and will be on a first to register/first serve basis.  Log on to the St Andrew's Surf Team facebook group to secure your seat! NEW - Please note there have been some changes to the surfing program!
- Junior surf squad will now run on a Friday morning at the Noosa rock groyne commencing at 6am. 
- An Intermediate squad is now being offered on Thursday mornings for surfers in years 8-10.  Please check below for the information regarding this squad.

What's happening in 2013

After a fantastic 2012, the St Andrew’s surf team is excited to announce its program for 2013.  With the profile of the sport growing momentum within the college the team are hoping to offer something that will suit all levels of experience.

Here is a brief overview of what the college will offer our surfers in 2013.

Advanced surf squad – Thursday am.  Mobile location.  Must provide own craft - start date Thursday 7th February
This is the colleges premiere surf squad for advanced surfers.  Surfers in this squad are expected to be confident in all conditions on an open beach with no assistance.   Video analysis is a primary focus for this squad and is used to improve technical performance.  There is also a focus on strength and conditioning coupled with yoga to round out a balanced and challenging performance program.

Intermediate surf squad – Thursday am.  Mobile location.  Must provide own craft - start date Thursday 7th February
This squad is for surfers who are in years 8-10 and at an intermediate level.  Surfers in this squad are expected to be confident in surfing moderate conditions on an open beach with no assistance.  This squad will run in conjunction with the Advanced squad and surfers are encouraged to attend the yoga sessions.   

Girls surf squad – Wednesday am.  Mobile location.  Must provide own craft.- start date Wednesday 13th February
This squad is available to all girls in secondary who are at an intermediate level.  Surfers in this squad should be confident surfing on an open beach in calm to moderate conditions.  Video analysis is a primary focus for this squad and is used to improve technical performance.  Girls in this squad are also encouraged to attend the intermediate surf squad and yoga sessions.

 

Junior surf squad – Friday  6am.  Noosa rock groyne/1st point.  Must provide own craft. Start date Friday 15th February

The junior squad is available to surfers in year’s five to seven who are at a beginner/intermediate level.  Surfers in this squad should be confident surfing the Noosa rock groyne in calm to moderate conditions with some assistance.  The primary focus of this squad is to develop the surfers skill levels so that they can handle calm open beach conditions with no assistance.  At this stage this squad will be offered in Terms One and Four.  An opportunity will also be available for senior surfers to assist in coaching this squad in order to gain experience for a Level 1 surf coaching accreditation.|


Learn to surf squad – Saturday am.  Coolum.  Craft provided.

The’ learn to surf’ squad is run by Coolum surf school and is available to primary students who are at a beginner level.  This squad is available in Terms One and Four.  No previous experience is necessary to participate in this squad and instructors are provided at a 1:4 ratio.


Safety is of primary importance when surfers are in the water and the college adheres to strict water safety guidelines outlined by Surfing Australia.  The college will also provide ‘high visibility’ rash which must be worn by all participants whilst surfing with the squads.  Parents are always welcome and encouraged to participate.  Information and squad locations are updated on the college surfing webpage and also the surfing facebook page.
