Brother and sister make Australian team
Congratulations to Louise Evans who competed at the recent Australian Youth Sailing Championships in the women's Radial Class. Louise achieved the Overall regatta win and a prestigous Australian Youth Sailing Team spot. Evans sailed extremely consistently throughout the entire regatta and earned her chance to  to represent Australia in Japan in March and at the ISAAF Youth Worlds in July in Irelandsail at the ISAF Youth Worlds in Ireland. Congratulations Louise. Her brother Kye then sailed in the Australian Optimist Nationals at RQYS last week.  In a fleet of 118 boats Kye finished 5th Australian on the last day of racing.  The top 5 boats at the Nationals secure a position in the Australian Optimist Worlds Team.  The Opti Worlds are in the Dominican Republic in July.

On Sunday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm the Maroochy Sailing Club has novice races where SAAC students can borrow club pacers or competent sailors can sail their own boats.  The contact person is Tim Edwards.  I can make sure I am available to make introductions on a particular Sunday morning if you contact me in advance ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  Noosa Yacht and Rowing has afternoon and learn to sail programmes as well (contact Paul Blundel 0414522295).  A school team to race in inter school regattas later this year will be selected based on student’s ability.

Elyse Ainsworth - Sailing - Australian Champion 2010

With emotions running high the final day of the Australian Minnow Sailing Championships brought a climax of protests, retirements, broken vessels and outstanding sailing performances. In the novice division Noosa’s Elyse Ainsworth representing  Queensland claimed her first national title winning five of the seven races to easily claim 1st place in her division. “I’m really happy to win, it’s a big regatta and I hope it’s a stepping stone to bigger things,” said Elyse. In the Open Division other standout performances by Queensland sailors was Elyse's sister, Noosa’s Jacinta Ainsworth who finished 8th. The 28th Australian Minnow titles saw sailors  between 8 and 15 years of age compete for national honours with a fleet of 35 boats from Northern Territory, Victoria and Queensland.

Sailors go great!!
Congratulations to our three sailing crews who had a big weekend of sailing. They are competing in the Sunshine Coast Inter school Dinghy Sailing challenge involving 10 schools racing over 2 days of competition. The high standard of sailors at St. Andrew's was terrific and thanks to Mr Brad Spring and the families for their great support. St. Andrew's finished a wonderful runner up in some tense racing in the Finals on Sunday. Well done, Luke F, Luke H, Elyse, Jacinta, Paige and Ella for doing so well.

Sailing Success
Ella and Louise Evans had a busy summer of sailing. In early December they both sailed in Sail Brisbane. Louise scored a first in her Optimist division. Ella , second in her Laser 4.7 division. Ella then sailed in the Sydney International Regatta achieving a 4th in her Laser 4.7. Both Louise and Ella sailed in Sail Melbourne just before Christmas. Louise scored a 3rd in her Optimist and Ella, 5th. They then flew over to Perth. The Laser Nationals was sailed in Freemantle with predictably strong breezes. Ella 19th overall, 16th Australian and 6th girl in her division. Louise then sailed in the Australian Optimist Nationals at Mandurah, an hour south of Perth. It was an international regatta with over 90 boats on the start line. Louise 41st and 18th Australian. She has qualified for the Australian Optimist Sailing Team [the only Queensland sailor this year to qualify]. This will see her training and sailing this year in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Lake Macquarie, New Zealand, Singapore and possibly Malaysia. Ella finished her summer competing in the Australian Youth Nationals in Mandurah. She finished 13th Australian and 4th girl. She has been invited to continue training with the Queensland Youth Squad and in the Australian Laser Youth training group.

Sailing success in 2008
The combined Sunshine Coast team of junior sailors won the BBC invitation junior regatta. The Sunshine coast team consisted of sailors from Mathew Flinders , Sunshine Coast Grammar and St. Andrew's was represented by Ella and Louise Evans. In a series of 12 races, the Sunshine Coast team won the eight races they sailed against Iona College and Brisbane Boys College. Go SAAC and the Sunshine Coast Team!!

Sailing Success

In early January 2008, Kye (year 2) and Louise Evans (Year 7) travelled to Rockingham, just south of Perth to compete in the 26th Australian Minnow National Titles. They enjoyed sailing in the afternoon strong winds known as the Frremantle doctor. Louise sailed in a fleet of forty boats, obtaining a 2nd in the Junior division and a 6th in the Open division.
Kye competed in the Novice division, in a fleet of sixteen boats. He won seven of his eight races, winning the series outright. Kye is the present Minnow National Novice Champion for 2008.
