|Our main focus for literacy in Prep is initially working on our letter shape and sound. Each week the students will have an opportunity to present an object starting with the 'letter of the week' as part of our speaking and listening. You will find the list of these below. Reading is also a big part of our literacy program and the students will not only take readers home but will be guided through readers during the week at school. Along with home readers we will also be using the online reading program reading eggs on the interactive whiteboards and computers and of course guided reading with the teacher every week. Writing this term will consist of pencil grip, sight words and writing short statements; ie; I like to.... we will also be focussing on recount this term. |This year we will be using the Stepping Stones program that has been written according to the Australia Curriculum. Our main focus in Prep is recognising and understand all aspects of the numbers 1-20. Starting with 1-5. This means writing the numbers correctly, understanding positions/order and value. Along with number we will also be looking at patterning, shapes, units of measurement and probability ie; is it likely to rain today? yes, no or maybe.
|Social Studies: Australian Animals|
|Australia is a vast seemingly boundless landscape. This landscape is full of unique and beautiful animals. In this unit, each student will get to know the Australian landscape better whilst also journeying to the homes of and learning about some of our most love native animals. Each student will learn about ways we can care for our native animals and the habitat in which they live.
|Science: Weather in my World|
|Each day the weather affects our work and leisure activities. The weather influences our decisions about what to wear and the things we do. Severe weather phenomena such as droughts, floods and cyclones have serious impacts on communities. Horticulture, farming, fishing and tourism are highly dependent on weather. The accurate prediction of weather patterns and interpretation of weather forecasts are very important to our economy and lifestyle. Each student's beliefs and understandings about the air, sun and wind developed as they worked through a series of hands-on activities aimed at increasing their knowledge of how the characteristics of weather affect their daily lives.
|Prep SK would like to wish a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Hunter, Jessica and Mrs K who all celebrate their birthday's in November.
|Congratulations to Nicholas, Abbey and Jessica who are our Assembly Award winners this week!
|Star of the Week:|
|Congratulations to Lily and Ry who are our Star's of the Week.
