CONGRATULATIONS to all our Preppies for graduating to your blue belts in Karate! You are all amazing!!!!!
|Last week of Prep!|
What a fabulous week we have had in Prep DE! I was so proud of the children as they graduated to their blue belts in Karate on Tuesday. And how amazing were they on stage during our Celebration of Learning Concert?!! It was wonderful to reflect on our Prep learning journey... how far they have all come! Thank you so much for the amazing costumes, the children looked positively.... ANGELIC! ;)
I can hardly believe it, but next week is our last week together. Such an exciting time for the children and yourselves to be moving on to pastures new, but also sad that our time together is coming to an end.
I have enjoyed a wonderful year. Thank you so much for sharing your adorable children with me and thank you for all your support throughout the year. It truly has been a sensational year.
I would like to invite you all into the classroom on Tuesday afternoon for a preview of our Prep DE movie. Apologies in advance..... a Hollywood movie maker I am not, but there are some beautiful pictures of your children and many special memories included in the movie which I hope you and your child will enjoy and possibly treasure forever. Thank you for sending in a USB stick, I will be copying the movie onto these on Monday ready to hand out on Tuesday.
Prep DE will complete all their Christmas activities and gifts throughout Week 9, they have been working hard on some special gifts for you all which I am sure you will love. We will have our final swimming session on Monday and a final catch up with our Buddies on Wednesday morning before heading off to meet our new teachers for 2014! Our week will finish on Wednesday afternoon with a whole school Chapel service in the RGC. The Preps will be back in the classroom for a final farewell at 2.45pm.
Please email me if you would like me to set any extra Bug Club readers for over the holidays and how many you would like.
Here's to a fabulous final week together!

|Stars of the Week|
Two fantastic students will be chosen each week to be our 'Stars of the Week'.
They will get to perform special tasks around the classroom, including being the line leader, opening the door to the parents in the afternoon and being a super role model to their peers. They will also get to wear a special badge and have their photo placed on the Star of the Week board.
Qualities that may earn a class member an Assembly Award include:
kindness, honesty, sharing, being a caring friend, giving 100% effort to all tasks, having a positive attitude, and many other fabulous qualities.
Congratulations to Saraya who received a special Superstar Assembly Awards during Week 7. We are so proud of you!
Congratulations to everybody who celebrate their birthdays in DECEMBER
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Asha and Harrison!!!
From all your friends in Prep DE!
Our main focus for literacy in Prep is initially working on our letter shape and sound. We will be using a fantastic phonics program called Letterland. Each week we will meet a new Letterland character who has their own special song, story and activity. The students will have an opportunity to present an object starting with the 'letter of the week' as part of our speaking and listening. You will find the list of these below. Reading is also a big part of our literacy program and the students will not only take readers home but will be guided through readers during the week at school. We will also be using the online reading program Reading Eggs on the interactive whiteboards and computers. Writing this term will consist of pencil grip, sight words and writing short statements; ie; I like to.... we will also be focussing on recount this term. This will include writing recount information ie: On the weekend I...

When you receive your child's home reader, please sign the record sheet and return it each day and I will send home a new reader. You will also have the opportunity to complete a digital reader uisng 'Bug Club' over the weekends. Please click here to read further information regarding your child's Home Reader.
Please read these words with your child and help them to recognise the different letters within their sight words as often as possible, at least once a day. We will also be using these words in class activities. I will be checking your child's sight word knowledge each week to ensure your child is moved onto the next set of words at the appropriate time. Prep DE sight words may remain at home and do not need to come back into class. You may like to keep them in a box, stick them on your fridge or wall, or even take them in the car to 'entertain' your child and avoid the dreaded question... "Are we there yet?!!"

Here are some Literacy websites you may like to access from home. All are age appropriate and cover the sounds we are learning this year:
This year we will be using the Envision program that has been written according to the Australia Curriculum. Our main focus in Prep is recognising and understand all aspects of the numbers 1-20. Starting with 1-5. This means writing the numbers correctly, understanding positions/order and value. Along with number we will also be looking at patterning, shapes, units of measurement and probability.
Australia is a vast seemingly boundless landscape. This landscape is full of unique and beautiful animals. In this unit, each student will get to know the Australian landscape better whilst also journeying to the homes of and learning about some of our most loved native animals. Each student will learn about ways we can care for our native animals and the habitat in which they live.
On the Move
Why do things move? The universe, and everything in it, is continuously moving and changing. Movement and change are concepts that we need to understand to make sense of the world around us. They are linked to concepts of energy and force. Scientists and engineers apply these concepts to study the performance of athletes and in the design of toys, cars and spacecraft.
The On the Move unit links Science with Literacy and each student will develop an understanding of how things move. They will explore the push and pull forces they can use to move objects in ways such as sliding, bouncing and spinning. Through investigations, each student will observe and gather evidence about rolling objects and explore the idea of fair testing.
