Secondary awards 2011Congratulations to the Secondary students on a fantastic year. The awards presentation was wonderful as the College was delighted to acknowledge the amazing academic achievements, endeavours and successes of so many in academic subjetcs, aspects of citizenship, community involvement, spirit and leadership. A bright future for Mia
THE future is looking bright for Yeal 11 student Mia Wray after she was named as the inaugural wildcard entrant in the Telstra Road to Discovery talent development program. The win will enable the talented 16-year-old to not only showcase her music to the nation but make serious connections in the music industry. Read more about Mia here
St. Andrew's rewarded for our wonderful healthy environment
St Andrew’s has been recognised as highly commended for the Keep Australia Beautiful and Q2 awards for 2011. We have won $10 000 as one of 6 finalists in the healthiest workplace category due to the healthy options that the SnAAC Shack offers to students and staff. We recently won the State Nutrition award. If this is not enough, we have been nominated for ‘tuckshop of the year’ through QAST – Queensland Association of School Tuckshops. CongratuIations to Mr Dmitri Simons and his staff, who accepted the award at parliament house behalf and spoke in depth to the honourable minister Cameron Dick – minister for education and industrial relations. He has indicated we are leaders in the field and everyone in government is looking forward to seeing our next steps.
Co-curricular awards 2011Congratulations to all students on a wonderful year and congratulations to our award winners for 2011. The number of students participating in co-curricular activities in 2011 has again been huge. It is great to see so many students recognised for their achievements, participation and spirit. 2011 Cultural CarnivaleCongratulations to all students involved the Cultural Carnivale 2011. It was a stunning couple of days full of music, art, photography, design and drama. The presentations and performances were exceptional and St. Andrew's Arts is very much alive and kicking. A huge thank you to the many supporters and contributors to this event. Look forward to seeing everyone in 2012.

"ONE DELICIOUS DECADE - A celebration of St Andrew's"
We are very excited to announce the launch of an exciting project which will come to fruition in 2012. "One Delicious Decade" is a cookbook celebrating the tenth year of St Andrew's in operation. "One Delicious Decade" will bring together recipes from our College community in a wonderful publication. Opportunities are available for all to submit recipes and also to sponsor the project. Basketball Champion School 2011
In just our first year of Competition in the Sunshine Coast Schools Basketball Competition, St. Andrew's has been crowned Champion School. This is a wonderful honour for our teams who have had an amazing season. The 13A Girls and 15A Girls were Premiers for 2011 beating Sunshine Coast Grammar and Matthew Flinders respectively in the final. Our 13A Boys team finished Runners up. Read more here. PinkTastic Day
It was another wonderful morning for our 6th Annual Pink day at St. Andrew's. The College turned Pink to support a wonderful local Charity- The Cindy MacKenzie Breast cancer Foundation. Our Year 11 Hospitality students put on a superb breakfast and thank to the Athletes Foot in Noosa for their vouchers for prizes for best dressed students. More photos are here
Heroes amongst us.We are all very proud of Alessia, Year 6 and Jules Cerasani, Year 7 who recently rescued a drowning swimmer from the surf. Having just completed their surf rescue certificates, Alessia jumped on her board and paddled to the man while Jules ran for help. What a fantastic act of bravery, supported by the terrific work that our surf clubs do, training our young people to help the community.

The Valedictory Dinner – 73 reasons to celebrate!
The end of the year is fast approaching for our Year 12 students and their families. With only seven weeks of school in Term 4 for our Year 12’s, the final day will be here before we know it.
The Valedictory Dinner will be held for Year 12 Students and their parents on Thursday 17 November, the night before their last day at the College. We are very proud of our young graduates and all enjoy this fitting celebration to the end of their schooling at St Andrew’s.

St Andrew's Students Meet Anna Bligh

USM Events invited St Andrew's students along to meet Anna Bligh as she announced additional funding for the Noosa and Mooloolaba Triathlons. Our students had a mini training session to show off their triathlon skills to the Premier. Thank you Mrs Crowther for arranging this event! One World Many StoriesWhat a wonderful celebration we had for Bookweek. The Richard Gowty Centre came alive with a myriad of characters from our favourite books on Friday. It was a colourful end to a week that included visits from acclaimed authors Richard Yaxley and Nette Hilton and our Year 6 and 8 Reader's Cup Challenge.
Thank you to all of the Mums and Dads and students who put in so much effort making fantastic costumes and to the characters from the Old Tom books who visited the parade, especially Horrible Harriet!
We all had so much fun!
Visual Art ExcellenceCongratulations to Year 12 student Chloe Tozer who will have a piece of Visual Art on show at the Creative Generation Excellence in Visual Art and Design, Regional Exhibition 2011. The exhibition is open to the public from 25 August until 15 September from 10am to 4pm on Monday to Saturday at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery. There is sure to be some amazing Secondary student art on display.

An amazing few weeks in the Music Department
What a busy few weeks our Music students have had with perfomances both in the Eistedfodd and at the EKKA. Congratulations to all students for their incredible committment to their musical studies. Performing at the EKKA for the first time were Beginner Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Primary Strings, Secondary Strings, Primary Choir, and the College Choir. They certainly were wonderful ambassadors for St Andrew's. Our thanks to Chelsey Thomas, Cade Bonar, Dave Elley, Natalie Jacobs, Jess and Tim Doecke, Trish Couper and Anne John for accompanying and leading the students and Tracy Shivnen for her magnificent organising of the day. Year 10 Students Win the Science and Engineering ChallengeCongratulations to our Year 10 Science students who won the regional final for the Science and Engineering Challenge held at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Teams competed throughout the day completing a set of different practical challenge and St Andrew’s won four trophies. This is the second year that St Andrew’s have won the challenge and they now go through to the state final in Hervey Bay in August. Well done to all our Year 10 students who took part on the day!
Kokoda Challenge Success
Congratulations to the St Andrew's teams who competed in the gruelling Jim Stillman Cup as part of the Kokoda Challenge on the Gold Coast. All of our teams were amazing and completed the 48km trek in terrible wet conditions. Teams consisted of 4 students and one staff member. Special congratulations to the team Gazzolas Bush Turkeys, Jono Affleck, Troy Gazzola, Ben Croydon and Lauren Reynolds, led by Mr Peter Gazzola who romped home to claim first place in 7 hours and 31 mins. What a fantastic achievement for all involved. Our thanks especially to the supporting parents and staff.
Staff CongratulationsWhile other teachers were having a holiday Mr Cade Bonar, Director of Music at St Andrew’s Anglican College, was attending a conference on the Gold Coast where he presented a paper as part of his Doctoral studies.The presentation entitled, “For me, music is…?” Initial dialogues with Year 8 Music students., refers to a paper by Cade, that employed interviews with Year 8 students to investigate the ways in which they engaged with music at school and out of school. Presenting to researchers from universities in Australian and NZ at the Australian and New Zealand Association for Research in Music Education Conference, Cade was extremely impressive and was awarded the prize for the “Best Presentation by a Doctoral Student”.

Foundation Day 2011It was a wonderful 9th birthday for St. Andrew's as we welcomed Aria Hall of Fame inductee and founding member of the Australian band, The Church, Mr Peter Koppes as our special guest. His music was inspiring [photos here] It was a great way to finish the term with the 9th running of the 'Diamond Dash' involving over 200 runners. They won the Independent Schools Athletics Championships for the 4th year in a row beating nine other Independent Schools. Sunshine Coast Grammar School were 2nd and Matthew Flinders were 3rd. It was an outstanding team performance with many individual achievements. Congratulations to all 55 team members and my thanks to families for their wonderful support. A Fantastic Fair 2011
Thank you students, families, supporters and vistors for making the Fair a wonderful success. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who worked so hard to prepare for this great community event. Cross Country Champions 2011The Primary team have won the Independent District Cross Country for the third year in a row. The team were outstanding to beat Matthew Flinders into 2nd and Grammar into 3rd. The Secondary team were terrific with the girls winning overall the Girls aggregate and the combined team finishing 3rd overall. The following day at the Queensland All Schools Championships with over 2000 competitors and 125 schools - we won 5 team medals including Gold in the 9 years Girls. St. Andrew's in China
On Tuesday 12th April 20 Year Six students along with Mrs Bambling, Mr Ellis and Mr Ivey departed on their trip to Beijing. Arriving safely on Wednesday the delegation was greeted warmly at Beijing airport and then transported to Beijing Primary School where they were enthusiastically met by their Chinese buddies. A beautiful and very formal Welcome Assembly was held on Thursday. Mr Ivey made a speech to the school community which was translated into Chinese by Leon. Urban Bound ProgramUrban Bound is a new initiative that the College has been planning for 12 months. Designed particularly for our Year 9 students, it derives from the need to provide some real-life and practical skills for our students. We’ve spent a considerable amount of time investigating a variety of options that suit the unique needs of a regional schools, particularly exploring how our students achieve a balanced exposure to outdoor, overseas and city experiences. Layne Beachley - an inspirationA huge thank you to seven time World Surfing Champion Layne Beachley for her inspirational visit to St. Andrew's on Monday 14th March. She is an amazing person who has achieved so much despite lots of adversity in her life. Leaders inducted for 2011Our leadership induction ceremony was a great morning as our Primary, Middle and Senior leaders were presented to Mr Ivey and appointed into their roles for 2011. It is wonderful to have so many incredible students able to undertake the variety of roles at the College in pastoral, music, sport, community and many more. Mr Ivey spoke of the values of humility, integrity, zeal, courage, loyalty, vision and wisdom and the importance of adopting all of these virtues as leaders. St Andrew's is buzzing!It has been a great start to the year and St. Andrew's students have taken up the incredible range of opportunities available at the College. Nearly 600 students are involved in a before school or after school co-curricular sport and this includes 230 in the Tennis Academy and nearly 200 boys signed up to play Rugby for the College. Numbers have swelled in all areas including Basketball, Netball, Surfing and Running. In Music our many ensembles and bands are thriving as is instrumental music. Our Primary Musical cast are well into rehearsals. House events, competitions, academic clubs, Homework clubs, tutoring, evening excursions are creating the wonderful 'buzz' at St. Andrew's. As a result there is a great energy amongst students and staff each day. Thank you to all families who support their child in their co-curricular activities.
Swimming SuccessIt has been a great few weeks of swimming with much success. Our Primary Swim team are Independent Schools Swimming Champions for the 3rd year in a row. Our Secondary team were 3rd overall this year and won the Percentage trophy for the 5th year in a row. The Secondary team also finished runners up at the Queensland Anglican Schools Swim Carnival on the Gold Coast. Twenty six students have been selected to represent the Independent Schools at the upcoming Primary and Secondary Regional swimming carnival. Congratulations to all 100 swimmers who represented the College.
Thank you for your Flood relief generosity
Thank you to over 1000 runners who attended the inaugural Charity Fun Run on Friday. It was a spectacular event and an amazing example of the incredible St. Andrew's community spirit. The final amount raised was an incredible $9005, so a huge thank you to all the SAAC community who got involved and showed great support for the victims of the recent Queensland Floods. Two thirds of SAAC students receive OP 1-10Congratulations to our Year 12 students for their commitment, attitude and leadership throughout 2010. The high standard of academic ability and overall consistency of this cohort was reflected in their outstanding results. Our Dux, Georgia Stevenson achieved an OP 1 and many of our students received results at the upper level of their academic potential. Incredibly 24% of students receiving an OP result in the 1-4 range, which compares with the state average of 14% and 66% of students achieving an OP in the 1-10 range, compared with the state average of 46%. These results reflect the commitment and dedication of our students and the supportive yet challenging environment created by our excellent teaching staff. The College is proud of all our students who have achieved their personal best throughout 2010 and as our Registrars continue to receive enquiries right up until Christmas, we are confident about our ability to enable each student to continue to do this. A huge thank you for your wonderful support at the Noosa 5km Fun Run this morning. There were over 550 students and many more family members. We raised thousands of dollars and had a great morning of healthy activity. It was incredible to see students from Prep to Year 12 running alongside many staff and families.
Amazing Book Week at St. Andrew's
Book Week is always lots of fun and this year has been no exception. Authors-in-residence Mark Svendsen and Deborah Carlyon entertained students with anecdotes about their writing, while the Book Week Parade was again a highlight with a dazzling array of amazing characters. Athletics Champions 2010
The Primary Athletics team competed alongside the 10 Sunshine Coast Independent Schools on Thursday at the SCISSA Athletics Carnival. The team were once again outstanding and won the event for the 3rd year in a row beating Matthew Flinders into 2nd, Nambour Christian College in 3rd and Sunshine Coast Grammar in 4th. 19 students from St. Andrew's will represent the District team at the Regional Carnival
Kokoda Challenge
Well done to the four St. Andrew's teams who competed in the 48km Kokoda Challenge. Out of 50 schools we finished an incredible 2nd place, 7th, 12th and 13th. The quickest SAAC team covered the tough 48km course in 7hours 43min. click here to read more

Remy, Tom and Jake represent Australia
At Just 13, St. Andrew's swimmer Remy Fairweather is representing Australia- yet another notch on her already growing list of achievements. Remy flew to New Zealand in June as the youngest member of the Australian Flipper squad, which is a Junior National team of swimmers, aged between 13 and 16. Joining Remy in the tour was Tom Williams and Year 11 student Jake Packard. Jake, 16 earned his spot on the National Junior squad by winning gold at the Australian Age Swimming Championships in Sydney earlier this year - read more here

Laptop Program
Our exciting new laptop program is launching. A new webpage has been set up to assist parents with all the information they require about the laptop program and it also provides them with the ability to email questions which will be posted up on this site with the answers. Other parents can then join in and see what questions have been asked and see the answer for themselves. In Term 3, we will be launching our e-learning café, a chance for parents to meet and ask questions about not just our 1-to-1 Laptop Program, but other relevant questions relating to technology. Foundation Day celebration
Our 8th Annual Foundation Day took place on Friday 18th June. It was a wonderful celebration and we were delighted to welcome Olympic Gymnast and Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, Brennon Dowrick as guest speaker. Brennon also brought his pommel horse and it was an incredible display as he spoke of taking risks and the importance of 'team'. The running of the Diamond Dash concluded events on Friday and it was the closest race in 8 years as Williamson and Hocknull shared the victory.
ACADEMIC
Day of ExcellenceOn Tuesday March 23, Twenty – Five Year 6 Students from St Andrews Anglican College and Matthew Flinders Anglican College participated in a ‘Magical Movie Making’ Information Technology Day of Excellence at Matthew Flinders. The children were exposed to elements of video story making by IT coordinator, Mr David Rynne. Students worked in groups to devise a short story, create a storyboard and become real life movie stars, directors and camera operators. The students edited their movies on IMac Computers. The day concluded with a film festival, including popcorn! All students thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful learning opportunity.

Cross Country Champions 2010
The Primary Cross Country team have done it again - On Friday they competed in the Sunshine Coast Indpendent Schools Cross Country Championships against 9 other Independent Schools. It was a fabulous event under perfect conditions and we won the overall trophy. We just pipped Matthew Flinders in 2nd and Sunshine Coast Grammar in 3rd. We have won the trophy now in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010. The Secondary team ran brilliantly against tough opposition finishing a wonderful 3rd.

Mothers day 2010
The sun was shining on the Mothers today at our special Mother’s Day Chapel. Shorn D Sheep made a special appearance along with his superhero friend Mr Lucas. We found out why our Mums are superheroes and enjoyed lovely performances by the Chapel Groovers and Year 4JR. The plant and herb stall was a success, the Year 2 mothers have certainly been busy and we look forward to the wonderful plants they are selling at the Fair. Thanks also to Saltire for the morning tea and the Terry White Chemist at Noosa Junction for their contributions to the lucky dip for our visiting Mothers!ll

Sunshine Coast Honour Wind Ensemble Program
This term sees the fourth year of the Sunshine Coast Honours Wind Ensemble Program come to life - an event in which up to 120 advanced music students from many of the local Primary and Secondary schools and colleges come together to produce some of the finest music on the Sunshine Coast – and an initiative of the St. Andrew’s Music Department. New York Business TripThe Countdown is on as ten of our senior Business Students head to New York on the Business Enrichment Trip to New York City! Departing March 26th, ten senior Business Students will spend two weeks in New York exploring the Financial Capital of the World.The content covered during Business Studies at school requires students to investigate and analyse business environments and opportunities on a variety of levels. ACADEMIC
Thirty students from Year Ten competed against sixteen other Sunshine Coast Schools at the Science and Engineering Challenge run by the University of The Sunshine Coast. This amazing group of young scientists came back with five trophies including the overall winner’s trophy. They will all go on to represent St Andrew’s at the State Championship in Brisbane in August. This is an exceptional achievement for St Andrew’s and demonstrates the depth of strength, knowledge, scientific skills and teamwork the Science Department is fostering in our students. Further to this several of the university staff on the day highlighted the enthusiasm of our teachers and the cohesiveness and excellent manners of our students.

21 St. Andrew's students to compete at State ChampsAn incredible 21 students from St. Andrew's will represent the Sunshine Coast at the Queensland Schools Swimming Championships later this month. Living Green at St. Andrew's
The College is delighted to annouce that we have secured a $10,000 grant to implement many of our wonderful 'green' initiatives for 2010. This will allow us to initiate the St Andrew's Low Carbon Diet Challenge, take part in the Travelsmart Week , enjoy the Food-Wise Week, initiate a Recycling Week and also a 'Count the Carbon' Week. It should be a wonderful year of green developments for St. Andrew's.

Swimming Champions 2010!The Year 4- 7 Swim team returned from the Sunshine Coast Independent Schools Swimming Championships as Champions 2010 and returned the trophy back to St. Andrew's for the 2nd year in a row. Competing alongside 10 Independent schools, SAAC beat Matthew Flinders into 2nd and Sunshine Coast Grammar in 3rd. It was a fabulous day with so many highlights. St. Andrew's raises over $10,000 for charity
Over 500 students took part in the Noosa Breakfast Fun Run on Friday to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It was lovely to see the Crockford Family starting the event. Mum, Lara is just starting her battle with cancer. We once again won the most participative school and we were presented with a cheque for $500 which we promptly donated back to charity. Meeting with the Governor General
Two St Andrews Anglican College students travelled to Canberra in September2009 to meet the Governor General of Australia Ms Quentin Bryce AC as part of the annual Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) Instructor Day program. Piper Priestley ( 6SB) and Sabine Priestley ( 3MK) were part of the official APLS welcoming party and had the opportunity to speak with the Governor General about their school and life on the Sunshine Coast whilst presenting Her Excellency with a bouquet of Australian native flowers. The Governor General confided to Piper and Sabine that she loved the Sunshine Coast and particularly enjoys surfing on our beautiful beaches.

In the 50th Anniversary year of the QIEU Literary Awards, we are very proud to have five students recognized for the quality of their written texts through this prestigious statewide competition. INNOVATION
The growth at St. Andrew's is terrific and this will be further enhanced with the completion of new double storey Primary School building. This will further enhance the Primary School with 'state of the art' large modern classrooms ideal for teaching and learning.
