ATHLETICS 2012

Queensland Schools State Championships

A wonderful event was in Cairns for so many amazing St Andrew's Athletes at the Queensland Schools Athletics Championships. Some incredible performances -  the standard is unbelievably high. In one 100m event the difference in heat times from 1st place to 40th place was just 1 second. To have 9 St Andrew's students selected is a credit to them and their families. As always our students shone - with highlights being Gus Luhrs (7th) and Amber Kimmel (6th) making the final of the 800m ( only 8 runners in each final). Lily Bougoure competed well in the Multi event and Kate Sterling finishing 9th out of 30 in the Long Jump.

Congratulations to our Secondary students who attended the Regional Athletics Champs last week. There were some outstanding performances - Brodie Modini (14 boys) won both the 800m (2:01.40) and 1500m (4:16.54) in new record times. The 1500m record had stood for 15 years. Cecilia Luhrs won both 800m and 1500m event and Jordan Csabi won both the 15 boys 100m and 200m. Jack Payne won the 13 boys Discus and picked up 2nd in the Shot Put. Emily Nicholas got 2nd in the 13 years long Jump and 3rd in the Shot Put. Olivia Blight picked up 3rd in the Shot Put and Brittany Cashman qualified in the 100m and 200m...Well done to all who made it to the event...The standard of performance is very high.

A great day for 20 of our young St Andrew's athletes with some superb performances and plenty of PB's at the Regional Athletics Carnival. Incredibly 9 St Andrew's students have booked their seat on the plane to Cairns for the Queensland State Athletics Championships in October - Well done to Riley Modini, Emma Wilkinson, Kate Sterling, Isabella Tomkins, Noah Martin, Gus Luhrs, Henry Petit, Amber Kimmel and Lily Bougoure.
