TERM 2:

WEEK 4:  Updated 5/5/2013.

Thank you for your donation of toys for the upcoming fair. It has been fun for the students to play with them. Every morning the students sit and play and share stories about their toys. They have formed a close bond and support each other in many ways. Please keep sending them, I know the Nicole and Naomi appreciate it.

Just a reminder about our camp in week 5. We met as a year group last week and spoke about making sure our clothes were clearly marked and we knew which were ours. Every year we have lots of unclaimed clothing and unfortunately they all are given away.

Again, a big thank you for your support with homework. Every week I can see your support with homework. Homework is about the responsibility of doing work in a different setting and without your classmates.  Your support is helping your child consolidate concepts, while your expectations support me with my endeavours to make your child confident in their own ability.  We have the Maths sheets sorted and now there are 3 different levels. This is really interesting to observe because the students know which level they are at in this point in time. Please note every Monday a new spelling list is given out and by Friday this list should be copied into their homework book.

WEEK 3:
  updated 26/4/2013.

UPCOMING FAIR:
With the fair only a few weeks away it is time to start collecting items to sell.  This year 4RG are selling TOYS.  If you have any toys, could you please them to school and place them in a box outside the classroom.

Alternatively, you can call our class representative Nicole Cousins and arrange a collection.

With 2 weeks already down things are travelling well. We have been working hard with our writing and this term we are concentrating on Expositions/ Narratives. It has been pleasing to note the expression and description improvement in our writing but we still have a lot of work to do to improve our proofreading and writing conventions.

WEEK 1:

Welcome back to Term 2 which is always another busy and exciting time in year 4. Hopefully the weather will settle and allow us to go on camp without any fear of bad weather. There won’t be any cancellations like with our excursion, we go hail, rain or shine because it’s the only time we can.
(week  5: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday)

Thank you for attending our culmination day and making it such an enjoyable event for the students.  It was great how everyone participated and made the morning worthwhile for the student’s presentations. It certainly was a great way to conclude our terms work.

This term won’t be too much different in that we will continue to build on our skills and hopefully go to another level. When I reflect on where we started and finished, it was a huge journey for us all. At the end of the term I asked the students to reflect on their term and write down their impressions.  I was encouraged by their assessment and honesty and what they want to work on this term. I’m sure with your support and encouragement Term 2 will be even better.

WEEK8:  Updated 17/3/2013.

Thank you for last week’s parent /teacher meetings. It hope you found it both informative and rewarding for your child? It was terrific to see the students there as well. Please continue to communicate with me and work together to achieve the goals we set during our discussion.

With only two weeks left before the end of the term and the same before our culmination day, it is time to get our presentation completed and ready for you to see. It has been a busy last of couple weeks preparing everything and watching everybody go about their business. How far have we come in one term? Everything is due this coming Friday. This will give us time in week 9 to fine tune and learn our 8th wonder so you can ask testing questions. Looking forward to seeing you and the grandparents making our term conclusion productive and enjoyable.

REMINDER: Cross Country – Thursday 21/3/2013. –time 1.30-3.00pm

WEEK6:
   Updated on 3/03/13.

With only a week before parent /teacher interviews begin, most time slots have been completed. I’m really looking forward to catching and discussing how your child has started their year in year four. Can I say how pleased I am with the way things are progressing?  Already I can see changes in the way your children go about their work and business. During our interview I will be discussing things like ownership, commitment and responsibility.  These are the changes that are making me excited. There is a nice buzz about our learning and as well the number of students coming aboard for the ride. The children are embracing the challenge and feeling confident with their approach. I hope you can see these changes? At the interview I want to discuss how we can together work together to make 2013 a really productive year and keep it happening.

A big thank you for supporting my requests regarding homework and how important it is you are involved with the process. This week’s work effort was amazing and it was quite evident you were involved somewhere. Having expectations at home as well as school makes a difference and the outcomes are significant.

See you at the interview...................

Excursion cancelled -18/03 /2013??

WEEK 5:  Updated 25//02/2013.

Thank you for correspondence regarding homework and particularly reading at home. Many of you are delighted with the attitude of your child and the interest they are showing with their reading. Every day I have someone showing me their latest book and asking if this is a good book for them to read.  I have also had concerns from parents whose child is relucent to read or aren’t taking their books home. We discuss this regularly in class about the importance of reading and how it impacts on all aspects of their learning. Please keep me updated with your correspondence; I am confident we will get there together. Your children are an absolute delight and it’s only a matter of time before everyone is on the same page with ownership and responsibility of their learning.

REMINDER:  Our excursion is this coming Tuesday (26th).  We will wear our sports uniform (red shirt) and take our knapsack with our usual lunches prepared by you every day. A water bottle will be necessary as there aren’t many places where water is available. It is a normal school day so arrival and pick up times are school hours. Here’s hoping the weather doesn’t spoil our fun??

WEEK3
:

Thank you for your participation at our parent/ teacher information evening. I hope you found it informative and a lot of your questions answered? Please, if you were unable to attend and would like to chat, make a time and come for a visit.

Our first full week went well and lots of good work was completed. Most pleasing to see was the attitude of everyone to make sure their work was the best they could produce. The desire to improve and to ask questions when unsure is commendable. Our settling in period has been very good. This week we start our groupings for Maths and English. Some students will have support with their work while others are extended and the rest continue to consolidate concepts started this year. It is a great way to meet the needs of all students and cater for individuals.

I’ve had lots of comments from you regarding homework and how much assistance you should give to your child’s work. Please continue to assist and highlight the work you helped. At this point in time I would expect some help with work. Once familiar with concepts students will require less help from you. Then if assistance is still required then we need to talk.

There has been a change regarding our excursion to Noosa National Park. Due to swimming commitments and the number of Year 4 students involved, we are forced to change the day. An update will be notified as soon as we can make the necessary changes.

Updated  4/02/2013.

WEEK 2:

It might have only been a 3 day week but  what an amazing 3 days. It feels like we have been together as a group for much longer. What a delight your children are. I am really encouraged from what I have seen so far. Your children are really keen to please and participate well during discussions.

As you know homework was sent home on Friday and will be completed and returned to school the following Friday giving the students a week to complete their tasks. I have explained if there is any difficulties regarding the Maths not to worry if all the questions can’t be completed. The sheets given will become more familiar and the time taken will become less as the students complete more of these sheets. I have also requested the students keep their Maths Dictionary at home to help with concepts that might not be consolidated.  I will be explaining more at our Parent/ Teacher night this Thursday at 6pm. Thank you for your encouraging smiles each day and please feel welcome to be a part of our classroom environment. Our partnership throughout the year is vital for the success of your child.

REMINDERS:

  • Sports choices for SCISSA are on the web and need to be back asap.
  • Students are to make Musical instrument choices by Friday.
  • Year 4 classes will be going on an excursion in the coming weeks to Noosa National Park as a part of their studies in SOSE regarding the Natural Wonders.
  • School musical rehearsals for parts begin this week. Interested students should be aware of times.

Last updated on Tuesday 29/01/2013.

Welcome back, hope the break was restful and the weather kind to you.
