NEW! - Important Message from Ms Nielsen
Ms Nielsen's last day - My last day with the children for 2013 will be this coming Tuesday 3rd December. I have an appointment that I could unfortunately not make on any other day. I look forward to making Tuesday as much fun as possible and will endeavour to make it in to farewell my poppets close to 3pm on Wednesday, all things going according to plan. My time with 2RN has been so memorable and I look forward to seeing my angels progress into Year 3. Thank you to each and every family for your ongoing support and love throughout the year.
p.s. Secret Santa will be held on Tuesday 3rd December :-)

Students have been asked to wear 'Xmas Party Clothes' to perform their Year 2 item.
NEW! Class DVD for 2013
Please send along a clearly named USB if you would like a copy of the 2RN Class DVD for 2013.
The last day for USB's will need to be Friday 29th of November to allow enough time for copying each one.
A class viewing will be held. Details to follow soon.
NEW! Class DVD Viewing and Portfolio afternoon - 2nd DECEMBER
Please join us for a walk down memory lane this Monday afternoon, at 2.30pm for a spectacular first time viewing of 2RN 2013 :-)
We would love to share our special portfolios with you and then sit back, relax and watch our class dvd for 2013.
NEW! SECRET SANTA SHHHHHH :-)
Students have been asked to 'make' not 'buy' a small gift for our Secret Santa lucky dip on the last day of school.
We have discussed that a gift that has been made comes with lots of love :-)
Girls will make a gift for a girl and Boys will make a gift for a boy.
Please clearly mark your gift with a 'G' or a 'B' and show Ms Nielsen before popping into our Santa sack.
NEW! Your Child's Workbooks
Very soon your child will start to bring home their workbooks from 2013. Please enjoy seeing just how far we have all come since the beginning of the year, we are so very proud of each and every child in 2RN :-)
These workbooks will also become valuable revsions tools for use over the Christmas break.
We seem to have a short supply of glue and lead pencils in our room at the moment. Could all families please ensure that your child has glue, lead pencils, scissors and colours to complete their daily tasks. A lot of our kind souls have been graciously sharing their materials with others.
Students will need at least 2 lead pencils and an eraser for their Allwell testing day.
Eating healthy food helps children concentrate and learn. However, healthy eating changes are not always easy to make. Try to set a good example with your own lunches. Encourage children to help choose and prepare their own lunch. They might like to make a list of the foods they enjoy. Praise your child when they choose healthy foods for their lunch box.

*Show and Tell
All students have been placed into either Group A or Group B and will be required to complete show and tell once a fortnight. Ms Nielsen will record your child's chosen topic in their diary at the beginning of the week. A list of topics and our groups will be sent home this Monday.
Parent help in 2RN is a valueable and much loved experience for our children. Any time that you could spare would be greatly appreciated :-) Parents will be invited to either help out with our Reading Comprehension Cards, SRA's, or our rotational groups. A sign-up list will be placed on our notice board this week.
Home readers will be changed on a 'needs' basis during Year Two. Your child will receive a home reader that is appropriate to their reading level. The length of the book, your child's comprehension of the book and your after school committments will determine if it needs to be changed on a daily basis, or every few days. When you require the book to be changed, please place the reading folder in the appropriate box near the front door. It will be changed and returned with your child that afternoon. If you have any questions regarding the homework or home readers, please don't hesitate to contact Ms Nielsen or Ms Rafter.
Our Year Two students will receive a homework grid each Friday. This grid is glued into the homework book and gives details of the homework activities to be completed for each week. The homework is then due the following Thursday and we will mark and return the students homework books each Friday to complete the following week of homework. By distributing the homework each Friday, it allows for its completion over the weekend, as we find that some families are busy with after school commitments during the week. The homework grids are designed to be completed independently by the students

Inquiry Term 4 - Preserving the Past - Our Local Community
In Year 2, students will explore, recognise and appreciate the history of their local area. They will be involved in a range of investigations of the local area, including the history of the College, a monument, a building, a street or a whole town or suburb. Through local history, students can discover the story of the local community. This unit will reinforce the idea that sources such as photographs, buildings, household objects and stories can provide information about the past.
Science Term 4 - Mix it up
We are surrounded by mixtures — the air we breathe, the food we eat and drink, and our personal grooming products. Chefs try mixing ingredients in different ways to make tasty combinations and interesting textures. Through inquiry, scientists have developed mixtures that are useful for all kinds of purposes, such as alloys, amalgams and paints, to name but a few. Indeed, it can be surprising just how many things that we take for granted every day are the result of inquiry into mixtures. For example, how different our lives would be without the myriad of inks, glues and detergents at our disposal. In this unit students learn about materials that don’t mix well, and others that are difficult to separate. Through hands-on investigations, students explore how changing the quantities of materials in a mixture can alter its properties and uses.
LOTE - Term 4
Art - Term 4
Each week one student from 2RN will be selected to receive a 'Primary Award' for doing something special. This award will be presented to the student on the P-3 assembly which is held every Monday at 11:00am in the RGC.

Students who are chosen will be our line up leaders for the week to come and will receive a super duper 'Star of the Week' certificate. Year Two Curriculum Overview
We Highly Encourage Healthy Morning Tea/Lunch Boxes. Healthy lunches and snacks are important for active children. It is important to offer healthy lunch box choices. Tips include fresh fruit, crunchy vegetables and a combination of protein, dairy and carbohydrate foods.
