NEW! - PLAYDOUGH FUN!

2RN will be organising and running the Playdough Tables at next Wednesdays 'Under 8's Day.' We would love as much Playdough as possible to make the activity lots of fun. Your donations of an ice cream sized tub of playdough, any colours, would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you can assist by Tuesday afternoon. Then we will know how much we will need to make :-)

New! - We will be looking at old and new technology this term so if any parents have any objects (such as old fashioned telephones, irons, records, cassette tapes etc) they can bring in and leave on our Technology table it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of the wonderful items that have come in so far - it has been fascinating to see and remember these items and how we worked them!

NEW - 2RN Book Stall Donations

Our class is responsible for the Second Hand Book Stall at the fair this year.

Over the next few weeks can you please have a look for any books, CD's,

DVD's and/or Magazines that you no longer want and that are in good condition.

All donations can be dropped at either the classroom or the main office.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful donations we are sure to receive.

Alison, Cheryl and Carolyn

We Highly Encourage Healthy Morning Tea/Lunch Boxes. Healthy lunches and snacks are important for active children. It is important to offer healthy lunch box choices. Tips include fresh fruit, crunchy vegetables and a combination of protein, dairy and carbohydrate foods.

Eating healthy food helps children concentrate and learn. However, healthy eating changes are not always easy to make. Try to set a good example with your own lunches. Encourage children to help choose and prepare their own lunch. They might like to make a list of the foods they enjoy. Praise your child when they choose healthy foods for their lunch box.

Foods to put in a lunch box:

Suggestions include:
  • Fresh fruit.
  • Crunchy vegetables.
  • A meat or protein food such as slices of lean meat, a hardboiled egg or baked beans.
  • Dairy food such as a cheese sticks or slice, grated cheese, milk or yoghurt.
  • Starchy food such as wholemeal bread/roll, pita or flat bread, rice salad or pasta.

*Parent Helpers
Parent help in 2RN is a valueable and much loved experience for our children. Any time that you could spare would be greatly appreciated :-) Parents will be invited to either help out with our Reading Comprehension Cards, SRA's, or our rotational groups. A sign-up list will be placed on our notice board this week.

Home Readers

Home readers will be changed on a 'needs' basis during Year Two. Your child will receive a home reader that is appropriate to their reading level. The length of the book, your child's comprehension of the book and your after school committments will determine if it needs to be changed on a daily basis, or every few days. When you require the book to be changed, please place the reading folder in the appropriate box near the front door. It will be changed and returned with your child that afternoon. If you have any questions regarding the homework or home readers, please don't hesitate to contact Ms Nielsen or Ms Rafter.

Homework
Our Year Two students will receive a homework grid each Friday. This grid is glued into the homework book and gives details of the homework activities to be completed for each week. The homework is then due the following Thursday and we will mark and return the students homework books each Friday to complete the following week of homework. By distributing the homework each Friday, it allows for its completion over the weekend, as we find that some families are busy with after school commitments during the week. The homework grids are designed to be completed independently by the students

Inquiry Term 2 - Technology - Past and Present

Students will analyse aspects of daily life to identify how some have changed over recent time while others have stayed the same.  They will explore the impact of changing technology on people’s lives (at home and in ways they worked, travelled, communicated and played in the past).  Students will investigate what life was like before electricity, the changes in communication and the changes in transport.

Science Term  -

Water is essential to life. As humans, we not only drink water, we use it for cooking, hygiene, recreation and agriculture. Australia is a dry continent with an expanding population, and how we use water has become increasingly important. Water is a precious resource. The Water Works unit links science with literacy in the classroom. This unit will provide opportunities for each student to develop an understanding of, and appreciation for, a precious natural resource. Through investigations, students will explore how water is used, where water comes from and how to use it responsibly.
