Seeking some lovely Grandparents...
...to talk to 1AC students about what it was like when they went to school! We are learning about 'School in the Past' as part of our History studies this term and we would love some authentic accounts from our special family members. We would be looking at Monday afternoons between 2-2.30pm over the next few weeks - and just a 10-15 minute chat about what school was like for them would be perfect! If you know of a grandma or grandpa that might like to come in and talk to the students please let me know.
1AC HPE lessons - now on Monday
Now that swimming lessons have concluded, our sport day has changed from Tuesday to Monday. Please send your children to school on Mondays wearing their sport uniforms with their coloured house shirts. Wednesday sport remains as per Term 1.

Week 7: gl, fl
Week 8: -ed

NUMERACY
Our main focus in Year 1 is to revise understanding of all aspects of the numbers 1-20 and beyond. This means writing the numbers correctly, understanding positions/order and value as well as addition and subtraction. Along with number we will also be looking at patterning, shapes, units of measurement and probability.
SOCIAL STUDIES
What was school like 100 years ago?
In Year 1, students will analyse the past and present family life within the context of their personal world. Students will learn how family life has changed or remained the same over time, and on the similarities and differences between students’ daily lives and life during their parents’ and grandparents’ childhoods. They will explore what school was like 100 years ago and investigate the clothing worn to school and leisure activities.
Guiding Questions:
* How can we show that the present is different from or similar to the past?
* How do we describe the sequence of time?
* What was school like 100 years ago (classrooms, students, desks, teacher, rules)?
* How have the clothes changed?
SCIENCE
Up, Down and All Around - Earth and Space Science
Look out your window and you will see a constantly changing world. The Sun rises and sets and the sky reflects many different hues over a day. The landscape, everything we know about the environment began by observing it. Environmental modelling, space exploration and city planning all rely on careful observations of the land and sky. This unit provides opportunities for students to explore natural, made and managed features that undergo change. Through outdoor observations and photographic records, students investigate the daily, weekly and seasonal changes in their local environment.
Guiding Questions:
* What features of the sky and landscape change over time?
* How does human activity affect features of the landscape?
* Compare the changes over different timescales

H O M E W O R K
The Year 1 students will receive a homework grid each Friday. This grid is glued into the homework book and gives details of the homework activities to be completed for each week. The homework is then due the following Thursday and we will mark and return the students homework books each Friday with the homework to complete for the following week. By distributing the homework each Friday, it allows for its completion either over the weekend or during the week, as we find that some families are busy with after school committments during the week.
Home readers
When you receive your child's home reader, please sign the record sheet and return it each day and we will send home a new reader. You will also have the opportunity to complete a digital reader using 'Bug Club' over the weekends.
