Jake Packard wins Commonwealth Games Gold

GOLD!!! Congratulations Jake on a wonderful Games. It was a great last event for our 4x100m Relay team that included Jake Packard- what a race. Congratulations to the team on an amazing achievement with a new Commonwealth Games record. Fantastic to see Jake have a wonderful games after he finished 4th in the both the 100m and 50m Breaststroke Finals,

The Australian Dolphins Swim Team is incredible and Jake is very much a part of that team. He has shown huge courage to take risks and put himself out of his comfort zone. The medal is the end result, but Jake deserves huge praise for the ‘process’. Jake has been training tirelessly on his stroke, his starts and finishes, the details of his art to become better and better to get on the team. We don’t see that. We don’t see the sacrifice. We just see the end product. He has practiced the things that are tough, the difficult elements, not the safe easy things he already knows. He has made decisions that are tough and then he had to go out there knowing he potentially could not put it altogether in front of a big crowd and big TV audience.

He is an absolute inspiration to so many people because of his courage, his risk-taking and his dedication and we are very proud. Congratulations to Jake, his wonderful family and fantastic friends. Congratulations to all the team - Jake Packard, Mitch Larkin, Grant Irvine and Kyle Chalmers on a fantastic way to end the Swimming Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games
